How to Draw Baby Cloudjumper Dragon | Easy Step-by-Step Drawing Tutorial

Before You Start

Want to learn how to draw Baby Cloudjumper Dragon from How to Train Your Dragon? In this easy drawing tutorial, we’ll turn Cloudjumper’s detailed dragon design into simple shapes that are much easier to follow.

You’ll start with a basic head and body sketch, then build the legs, wings, tail, and Cloudjumper’s recognizable face before finishing with clean outlines and warm colors.

Grab your pencil, paper, or drawing tablet, and let’s draw Baby Cloudjumper step by step!

Step 1

Sketch the Head and Body

Start your Baby Cloudjumper drawing with a large rounded oval for the head.

Lightly add one vertical guideline and two horizontal guidelines across the face. These will help you place the eyes, nose, and other facial features later.

Under the head, draw a smaller curved shape for the body. Keep these first lines light so they’ll be easy to erase when we create the final outline.

Step 2

Add the Legs and Feet

Now let’s build Cloudjumper’s sitting pose.

Draw two curved leg shapes on either side of the body. At the bottom of each leg, add a small horizontal oval to guide the feet.

Keep both sides fairly balanced around the center of the body so the character feels stable and centered.

Step 3

Sketch the Wings and Tail

Next, lightly plan the wings behind the body.

Draw simple angled and zigzag lines extending from both sides of the upper body. These will act as guides for Cloudjumper’s layered wings later.

Then sketch a curved line behind one side of the body to plan the tail.

Don’t worry about the details yet—we’ll refine all these shapes in the next steps.

Step 4

Draw Cloudjumper’s Face

Now we can start transforming our simple sketch into Baby Cloudjumper.

Use the face guidelines to draw the large, sharp-looking eyes and thick upper brows. Add the long pointed nose in the center of the face.

Next, shape the wide upper head features and the fluffy, pointed forms around the sides and top of the head. Add the small triangular teeth underneath the eyes to complete Cloudjumper’s cute but fierce expression.

Step 5

Refine the Body and Legs

Move down to the body and begin replacing the rough sketch with cleaner shapes.

Outline the curved sides of the body and refine both legs. Add the small feet and toes at the bottom.

Draw a few short curved lines across the center of the belly to give the body a little more structure and detail.

Step 6

Draw the Wings and Tail Details

Now refine Cloudjumper’s wings using the guides from Step 3.

Draw the layered wings on both sides with sharp outer edges and curved inner sections. Keep the wings spread slightly outward so they frame the body.

Next, complete the curved tail behind the body and add its pointed, triangular details.

At this point, all of Cloudjumper’s main features should be in place.

Step 7

Clean Up the Final Outline

It’s time to turn the sketch into a clean Baby Cloudjumper Dragon drawing.

Trace over the lines you want to keep with smooth, solid strokes. Carefully follow the face, body, legs, wings, tail, and smaller details.

Once the final outline is finished, erase the rough construction lines and facial guidelines underneath.

Now your Cloudjumper line art is ready for coloring!

Step 8

Color Baby Cloudjumper

Let’s bring Baby Cloudjumper to life with color!

Use warm orange tones for the large head features and darker brown-gray shades for the body, legs, wings, and tail. Add the red-orange accents around the top and sides of the head.

Color the eyes with warm yellow tones, then add soft pink blush to the cheeks. Finish with small highlights in the eyes and lighter belly details to make the character feel extra cute.

And your Baby Cloudjumper drawing is complete!
